Speech and Music Competition

Each year the Rotary Clubs of Alturas and Cedarville hold their
annual District 5190 Speech and Music competition allowing
High School students throughout Modoc County to
showcase their unique talent in both speech and music.
The 2011 local competition was held at the Brass Rail
Restaurant with five students competing; three in speech
and two in music. The winners in both categories will
move on to compete against other student finalist
throughout District 5190 at the District Conference in
Reno in June. Each student in the speech competition
had to build their presentation around a particular theme,
which this year was "The power of one in our community
and throughout the world." The competition was very close
this year but only one finalist from each category was chosen.
The Rotary Clubs of Alturas would like to thank Rotarians
Ellen Jones (Alturas Sunrise Rotary Club) and Karen
Shimamoto (Alturas Rotary Club) for their tremendous
effort organizing this years competition. It was a huge
success.
