In the summer of 2010 the Rotary Club of Alturas Sunrise selected Deanna Jones, a Junior at Modoc High School, to attend the annual RYLA camp. The event took place at the Grissly Creek Ranch in Portola, California where Deanna said she learned many leadership skills and met other Rotary sponsored students from various counties throughout Northern California. RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is Rotary's leadership training program for young people. RYLA ephasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth, and aims to:
• Demonstrate Rotary's respect and concern for youth • Provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders • Encourage leadership of youth by youth • Recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities
